Originally from Cap Haitien where he was born July 18th 1954, Jocelyn Agenor studied in Christian school until the age of 15. In 1970, he started painting aside Michel and Jean-Marie Obin in the school created in the northern capital city, by their grand-father Philomé Obin and their great-uncle Seneque. Philome at the time was the great master who initiated the world reputation of naive haitian art.

Two years later, young Jocelyn moves to Port au Prince and continues study before entering Monnin Gallery where he started to get exposed with a success that lead him to become a full time artist.

Soon enough he got his own style, with animals, while keeping the rigorous rules of Ecole du Cap.

He mainly paints paradises, Noah’s arch, jungles full of various animals, but he also depicts rural haitian life.
